Reminiscing, Holiday in Spain (part 3, Córdoba)

By Emily on March 6, 2013

I’m back for the third and final installment of finally posting photos from and remembering my most recent vacation in Spain (which, for those who are paying attention, did actually take place over a year ago!). The first two installments reminisced about time spent with friends in Madrid and in Barcelona, and this third post [...]

Reminiscing: Holiday in Spain (part 2, Barcelona)

By Emily on February 22, 2013

Back for another installment (here’s part 1 for the backstory). After a day in Madrid with friends, it was time for the next stop of the whirlwind tour. I headed to Barcelona to meet up with two of my dearest friends: one who works for a tech company in Barça, and the other who flew [...]

Reminiscing: Holiday in Spain (part 1, Madrid)

By Emily on February 8, 2013

I may have a future as an archivist after all, since apparently I’ve gotten more comfortable with always having a backlog I just keep slogging through. By this I mean, I’ve caught up on Flickr uploads…through 2011! Success? One of the really fun parts about going through old photos is reminiscing about fun times, creative [...]

thank you, state tax refund

thank you, state tax refund

By Emily on February 11, 2012

My tax refund was paltry, once again (I think something was jacked up on my W4 and I never realized it…hoping for a bit more of a payday next year). But since it was so small, I felt 100% justified blowing the entire $85 I got back from the State of Montana. And what did [...]

Updates, post-Spain

By Emily on November 17, 2011

I’m back. I’m jetlagged still, sorta. Or maybe coming down with a cold? Whatever – falling asleep at 9 pm is not my norm. So much swirling in my head so I’m not quite ready for any Spain posts. Still need to download photos to my computer. Still need to unpack my suitcase, bulging everywhere [...]

Travel in your future

“The idea of having travel in your future is like having a book that you haven’t read by an author who you love.” – Paul Theroux One month til takeoff. (from NPR’s Talk of the Nation)

Ticket to fly

By Emily on August 4, 2011

I bought a plane ticket to Madrid. After months and months of talking about it, thinking about it, planning a trip and then having to reconsider, daily Kayak email alerts about rising and falling fares, I finally bit the bullet and bought a ticket to Spain for this fall. It took a bonus at work [...]

Memory keeping

Memory keeping

By Emily on May 19, 2011

What’s the number one project you want to do but never seem to find time for? Bonus points if it’s overwhelming, expensive (especially if you buy supplies for it even when you’re not doing it), time consuming, or takes up a lot of physical space. For me, it’s scrapbooking. Or travel art journaling. Or whatever [...]

Córdoba: A food guide

By Emily on November 20, 2008

I enjoyed watching the last episode of Spain…On the Road Again, even if it was different from what I expected. They did an excellent job of giving a sense of the majesty of the Alhambra, drove to Motril and Almuñécar in Granada province, two relatively unexplored parts of southern Spain, sampled tejeringos, a type of [...]

Celebrating Córdoba

By Emily on November 16, 2008

As was well documented in this blog, Córdoba and I had sort of a love/hate relationship when I lived there. It’s a strange city, one so focused on the past and its pedigree among top historical sites that it sometimes neglects its present. Córdoba has a strong alternative side, though, a counterpart to the ubiquitous [...]

About Me

photo of miamired I like writing, photography, reading, music, design, typography, paper products, days in the seventies and sparkly snow, Spanish wine and cans of PBR. I spent a year in Córdoba, Spain, working as a language and culture assistant through the Spanish government, traveling, and writing about it here. After a few years back in my home state of Montana, I moved to Austin, Texas, where I like to go exploring, take pictures of my food, write letters, dream of far-off places, and think about concepts of home.
